CHAUTTI CHAUTTI

Chautti Chautti is a short, biographical animated film based on my father’s childhood memory of running away from home on a bicycle. Fed up with exams and parents, he decides to leave home one summer to discover the world on his own. The film follows his journey- a rebellious teenage journey across Kerala, charting a route between Ernakulam and Trivandrum, and swings between events real and imagined. This is a personal account of place and space, of impressions and experiences, that relives the exhilaration and excitement of breaking rules and running away. The film combines paper cut out puppets, stop motion and drawing with a voice-over in Malayalam. In all, it comprises over 3000 frames, each painstakingly created by hand, and composited digitally.
